Liquid Plastic

London-based furniture designer Richard Lowry’s polyurethane foam pieces for the 'Age of Man' exhibit are the result of an observation of our relationship with plastics.

Generally, plastic products are considered disposable, consumable, and mass produced. These pieces, titled Liquid Plastic are designed to challenge that narrative. Using a self-created composite of liquid plastic, marble dust, and pigment, Richard begins to look at plastic as something that can be utilized in a sculptural manner. Characteristic of Richard’s work, these pieces explore the boundaries between art and design and become a means of introducing sculpture into space, by exploring both materials and forms.
