After collaborating on a number of projects during their Masters studies at Cranbrook Academy of
Art, Hannah Dewhirst and Ingrid A Schmidt discovered common “turf,” and founded their experimental practice SUBSTUDIO in 2015. SUBSTUDIO builds immersive sensory environments,
forefronting ephemerality and experience as primary building blocks. They use material experimentation and digital fabrication as generative tools of discovery, and as a way of exploring autonomy within art, architecture, and design.
