Phoebe Kuo

Phoebe Kuo is a studio woodworker and designer from San Francisco, currently based in Evanston, IL. Her site-specific sculptures employ the technique of coopering—traditionally used in barrel-making—in which solid wood is cut into pieces, beveled, and reassembled into curves. This careful, time-intensive labor reflects her ongoing project as a queer woman of color to construct a coherent identity from disparate parts. She received her BS in Product Design from Stanford University and her MFA in 3D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
