Candy Coated
I spent my weeks split between studying design in sterile classrooms and working in construction at coal refinery plants. There I was confronted with the mechanisms of industry and sheer magnitude of waste run off, a side that is seldom seen on the front end of the design process. This series is a mash-up of languages pulling from these antithetical experiences. The work is structurally composed from scrap materials and run off from a foam fabricator. The glossy rubber coating and saturated color borrows from consumer product finishes from my studies. These pieces work to explore the boundaries of traditional ideas of beauty while holding a mirror to waste streams and consumerism.
