Optic Rug

Turkish designer Begüm Cana Özgür’s Opticals collection of weaves taps into the visual phenomenon of optical illusions. The result of a hands-on, experimental design approach and exploring the visual potential of the basic weaving technique of creating vertical lines, Opticals creates a unique experiential quality by generating patterns that engage the user with movement and depth. Handwoven in Turkey, by Anatolian master weavers, the weaves call upon the importance of one-to-one dialog between the object and the user, to form a long lasting engagement that would enrich not only the users' experience, but also expand the object’s own lifespan. Opticals reflects a signature quality of Cana's work– the fact she is less interested in objects as functional items, but rather as companions in life experiences.
