Phoebe Kuo`s site-specific sculptures employ the technique of coopering—traditionally used in barrel-making—in which solid wood is cut into pieces, beveled, and reassembled into curves. This careful, time-intensive labor reflects her ongoing project as a queer woman of color to construct a coherent identity from disparate parts.
